BIO

John Turturro made his film debut with a small role in Raging Bull (1980). He originated the title role in Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 1983 and reprised it Off-Broadway in 1984, earning an Obie Award. He went on to appear in To Live and Die in L.A. (1985), Five Corners (1987), and began a long-running collaboration with Spike Lee in Do the Right Thing (1989), followed by Mo' Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991), Clockers (1995), Girl 6 (1996), He Got Game (1998), Summer of Sam (1999), She Hate Me (2004), and Miracle at St. Anna (2008).


Turturro also developed a long collaboration with the Coen brothers, appearing in Miller's Crossing (1990), Barton Fink (1991), The Big Lebowski (1998), and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000). His additional film credits include Quiz Show (1994), Mr. Deeds (2002), Anger Management (2003), Secret Window (2004), Romance and Cigarettes (2005), The Good Shepherd (2006), You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008), the Transformers film series (2007–2017), Fading Gigolo (2013), and The Batman (2022).

As a filmmaker, Turturro wrote, directed, produced, and starred in Illuminata (1999), wrote and directed Romance and Cigarettes (2005), directed the documentary Passione (2010), made his Broadway directorial debut with Relatively Speaking (2011), and wrote, directed, and starred in Fading Gigolo (2013).

On television, Turturro won a Primetime Emmy Award for his recurring role as Ambrose Monk in Monk. He later starred in The Night Of (2016), earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, played William of Baskerville in The Name of the Rose (2019), began portraying Irving Bailiff in Severance (2022–present), and appeared in the Off-Broadway production of Sabbath's Theater (2023). In 2025, he filmed The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.
